Maxon OD-808 Vintage Overdrive - 1979 Early Model

Product Description

The Maxon OD-808 has an iconic place in pedal history. The OD-808 was an overdrive pedal produced in the late 1970's for the Japanese market. Like many of the Maxon pedals of this period, there were both small box and a slanted enclosure versions of the OD-808.

To those who were “in the know”, Maxon’s OD808 was identical to the famous Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer in nearly all but name when it was initially put on the market in the late ‘70s and early ’80s. In fact, Maxon was the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for Ibanez and actually made both the Ibanez pedals as well as its own under the Maxon name.

The small box versions of the OD-808 used the exact same PCB as the ones that Maxon was using in the first edition narrow box Ibanez Tube Screamer pedals, the most highly sought after of all the Tube Screamers. These feature dual Texas Instruments MC1458P IC's and the PCB's for these earliest pedals are labelled "OD801".
